adidas SL 72

Over 50 years since its original release during the Munich Olympics, the adidas SL 72 is more popular than ever. Targetting athletes and runners originally, adidas designed the shoe with speed and agility in mind - and so the "Super Light" footwear was born. The range has seen a huge boom in popularity with the 2024 release of new adidas SL 72 RS and adidas SL 72 OG models, offering choices for athletes and casual wearers alike. At Laced, we've curated a collection of the most popular colourways - so everyone has a chance to get their hands on difficult to find styles, 100% authenticated by our team of professionals.

Evolution of the adidas SL 72

Notable for many reasons, adidas SL 72 trainers have evolved over the years - staying true to its roots in some ways and modernising itself to today's sneaker market in others. Famous for being the first shoe to feature the iconic trefoil logo, the vintage release also enjoyed a nylon upper, suede overlays and a slim, lightweight look and feel that contrasts from many of today's chunkier sneakers. The recent release of both OG (original) and RS (reshaped) models by adidas and colourways created in collaboration with the likes of Wales Bonner has kickstarted the revival of this old school classic.

For fans of the vintage design, you can't go wrong picking up a pair of adidas SL 72 OG trainers. Keeping many of the original design features and materials, the shoe maintains its 10.9 oz weight and slim profile throughout - although this does cause a bit of a tighter fit due to the narrow toe box, so that's something to keep in mind! The adidas SL 72 RS is the answer to the casual sneaker wearer of modern times; a roomier toe box, thicker EVA midsole and generally considered to offer a more comfortable wear and true to fit size. This offering perfectly incorporates some of the improved industry technologies without losing the soul of its 1970s predecessor.

How to Style the Next Biggest Sneaker Trend

With household celebrity names like Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajowski seen sporting the new styles, there's no doubt that the adidas SL 72 is going to be one of the biggest footwear trends going into 2025. The growth of this shoe comes with the dethroning of some other classics; adidas Samba "fatigue" is being felt by sneakerheads around the world, and the whole industry has been waiting for something fresh to hit the shelves. We're stocking some of the most sought after collaborations and colourways in OG and RS styles. From vintage maroon brown, bold green and yellow pairings, standout silver and more subtle creams and whites, we're sure you'll find the perfect new pair to add to your rotation. With plenty of different mens and adidas SL 72 ladies iterations in stock, the most difficult part will be choosing what to buy!
